In the 1930's, the Reichstag (German parliament building) was set ablaze. Hitler blamed the fire on the Communists and said that he needed virtually unlimited power to be able to stop the Communists. If the German people and the German parliament had not been duped into believing that Hitler needed more power, it is possible that the Holocaust and World War Two might not have happened.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21063785.post-38066837552408713222007-05-03T14:14:00.000-07:002007-05-03T14:14:00.000-07:00Several of the worst atrocities in American histor...Several of the worst atrocities in American history have occurred when the president abused his executive power. For example, the forcing of Native Americans onto the Trail of Tears whould not have occurred if President Andrew Jackson had not blatantly disregarded a Supreme Court ruling which found the relocation to be unconstitutional. Unfortunately, Jackson did disregard the ruling (he pompously said, "[The Chief Justice] has made his ruling, now let him enforce it"), thousands of Cherokees were forced from land that was rightfully theirs to an unknown place hundreds of miles away, and many of those Native Americans tragically died from disease and exhaustion along the way. Another example involves abuse of executive power in the name of security. During World War Two, many American men, women and children were sent to prison not because they were proven guilty of crimes, but simply because they were of Japanese birth or Japanese ancestry. The official justification was that Japanese-Americans would, supposedly, launch an internal attack on the US. However, not only did the Japanese-Americans not fight against this country but many Japanese-Americans actually fought FOR this country. For example, according to the Grand Rapids Press, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a well-decorated unit that fought against the Axis Powers in Italy, consisted entirely of Nisei (second-generation Japanese-Americans).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
